Overview

Sermorelin Overview

Sermorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone corresponding to the first 29 amino acids of native GHRH (GHRH 1-29). It was previously FDA-approved as Geref for diagnostic testing of growth hormone deficiency, though that branded product was later discontinued from the US market for commercial reasons.

Product Information

Research-grade Sermorelin is typically supplied as a lyophilized powder in sealed vials, commonly at 2mg to 5mg strengths, intended for laboratory research use.

How Does Sermorelin Work?

Sermorelin binds GHRH receptors in the anterior pituitary, stimulating the natural pulsatile release of growth hormone, working through the same receptor pathway as full-length GHRH and later analogs such as Tesamorelin and CJC-1295.

Sermorelin Benefits & Effects

GH-Stimulation Research

Sermorelin's history as an FDA-approved diagnostic agent makes it one of the better-characterized GHRH analogs in the clinical literature, and it remains a reference compound in GH-axis research.

Aging & Body-Composition Research

Because GH and IGF-1 output decline with age, Sermorelin has been studied in the context of age-related GH-axis decline, though compounded, non-FDA-regulated Sermorelin products fall outside the approval that once applied to Geref.

Sermorelin Side Effects

When previously marketed as an FDA-approved diagnostic product, documented side effects included injection-site reactions, headache, and flushing. Compounded or research-grade material sourced outside a regulated pharmacy supply chain has not undergone the same quality controls or clinical oversight.

Sermorelin Dosage

The discontinued FDA-approved Geref product was dosed per its clinical labeling for diagnostic GH-stimulation testing; this does not constitute a current recommendation for use of unregulated research material, for which no standardized dosage exists.
